How we assess requests

At Activism Hub, we are committed to providing meaningful support to individuals and groups working on the front lines of social justice and human rights. However, as a small team with limited resources, we are careful about how we allocate our time and capacity. This page outlines how we assess requests for training or consultancy support, and what you can expect during the process.

Our capacity

We currently aim to support up to five cases per month through our Training and Consultancy programs. This allows us to offer thoughtful, tailored support while maintaining the quality and care our work requires.

We understand that many requests may be time-sensitive or come from urgent situations, and we do our best to respond promptly. If we are unable to take on a request immediately, we will do our best to suggest alternatives, referrals, or a future timeline for support.

How we assess requests

To decide whether we can take on a training or consultancy request, we consider a few key factors:

1. Urgency and risk level

Is the group or individual operating in a high-risk environment?
Are they facing immediate threats, surveillance, repression, or burnout?

We prioritise cases that involve urgent digital/physical security concerns, legal vulnerability, or critical internal challenges that may compromise the safety or function of a group.

2. Mission alignment

Does the requester’s work align with Activism Hub’s values and focus areas, such as human rights, grassroots empowerment, ethics, and sustainable activism?

We center our support on those working in solidarity with marginalised communities, those resisting injustice, and those building collective care and resilience.

3. Resource availability

Do we currently have the capacity, whether in terms of time, expertise, or team availability, to meet the request in a timely and meaningful way?

We’re a small team and may not always be able to respond immediately. We strive to be transparent about our availability from the outset.

4. Group capacity and readiness

Is the requesting group in a position to fully engage with the support offered?
Do they have the internal stability, time, and interest to implement changes or integrate new practices?

We’ve found that support is most effective when groups have the space and willingness to reflect, collaborate, and follow up on what they learn.

What happens if we can’t say yes right away?

If we’re unable to support a request immediately, we will:

  • Be transparent about why (e.g., lack of capacity, low alignment)
  • Offer possible timelines for future support, if feasible
  • Suggest referrals to trusted partners or other relevant resources
  • Stay open to revisiting the request at a later date

We value every request we receive and treat each one with care and confidentiality.

Questions or special circumstances?

We know not all cases fit neatly into forms or categories. If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, or if your needs are urgent or sensitive, please reach out directly. We’re happy to talk it through with care and discretion.
